Burn, Baby, Burn
As a fresh faced 22 year old, I graduated college top of my class as a double major. I left USC with two degrees in 3.5 years. My parents gleamed with pride. I was the definition of a successful young woman.
At 23, I was a CPA clocking 70+ hour weeks at Deloitte.
At 25, I was a senior financial analyst at Disney.
At 28, I had a masters degree from USC and was producing cutting edge immersive films with Academy award-winning actors. I was accepting awards and speaking at technology conferences and film festivals around the world. Life was perfect so I did what many other “successful” women do: I burned out.
My experience is not unique. And it’s a problem.
Companies face a serious gender leadership inequity. As of 2021, only 8.1% of leadership roles in Fortune 500 companies are occupied by women.1 How do we expect to have more women in leadership roles if we are dropping like flies by 30?
This is not a pipeline problem, this is a burnout problem.
Women are facing a historically high risk of burnout. 42% of women “often or almost always” experience burnout - up from 32% a year ago.2
There are more eligible women to enter the workforce: 55% of U.S. graduates are women. They tend to have higher grades and drop out less frequently.3
But women are four times more likely to leave the workplace than their male counterparts.4 It’s not because we are having children. Only 11% of women choose to leave the workplace permanently to have children - the majority leave due to corporate barriers.5
Burnout is real and it disproportionately affects women.
What is Burnout?
Burnout happens when we consistently override the messages of our body. Burnout feels like exhaustion, yet we’re not able to rest. It’s that WIRED and TIRED experience. Sadly, for many it’s the status quo.
Burnout can feel like apathy, or even worse, cynicism. Because let’s face it, it’s impossible to be excited about life when we are depleted, no matter how much you love what you do.
I know the feeling. And I would have kept going, as most of us do, but I was diagnosed with the earliest stages of cervical cancer. I was forced to stop and have a conversation with my body.
Every doctor I saw recommended the same thing: an invasive surgery to remove part of my cervix. For some time, I was torn. But a deep inner knowing led me down a path of self-healing. My body was sending me a message: it was time to make some changes.
I came across a body of knowledge that changed the course of my life.
💡 I discovered Menstrual Cycle Awareness, which not only helped me heal my body naturally and recover from burnout - it reframed the way I approach my work, relationships, and creativity.
In my masterclass Flow State, I teach Menstrual Cycle Awareness as a mindfulness practice - a commitment to stay conscious of where you are in your cycle throughout the month.
🧬 Encoded within our own bodies we have access to the most powerful method for accessing our creativity, natural motivation and productivity, AND restoration.
🌹 This wisdom is written in our menstrual cycle.
Flow State is all about living in sync with your cycle. It’s to living life to thrive! (not just survive)
Most of us try to override our natural cycle to fit into the modern world. We compensate by working extra hard, drinking too much caffeine, and getting too little sleep. Even if we’re lucky to not get physically sick, it’s pretty common we eventually experience feelings of unfulfillment because we struggle to fit into a cultural structure that does not fit us.
Without Menstrual Cycle Awareness it’s impossible to experience a state of flow...and what is even worse, we can often perceive our abilities and ourselves as inconsistent or unreliable, creating a negative self-concept.
In Flow State I share actionable insights and tools to align with your menstrual cycle awareness to support your well-being.
🌙 Knowing the ins and out of this method not only creates physical wellness, it develops a level of self-awareness that is key to authentic communication, setting boundaries, connecting with our creative instincts and building confidence.
This methodology is backed by science
Recent research shows that Menstrual Cycle Awareness improves women’s mental health and well-being including personal and professional achievements and the right to feel empowered and experience equality.6
Flow State is a foundational framework I share with all of my clients. As a coach and mentor, I’ve guided hundreds of women to advance themselves creatively and professionally through the wisdom of their menstrual cycle.
With so much love,
Christina
