Have you ever come across the concept of the Dark Goddess?
She's this incredible force that works on healing the shadowy parts of our existence while also embracing destruction. She's quite a paradox, bringing about chaos while also embodying creation, transformation, cycles of life and death, and the inevitable stages of our personal evolution. She’s terrifying. She’s terrific.
During this Venus Retrograde, I’ve been reading Marion Woodman’s & Elinor Dickson’s book, Dancing in the Flames: The Dark Goddess in Transformation of Consciousness, and it’s resonating deep, way down deep, to the hidden places I forgot, or tried to hide away.
But life is a roller coaster of experiencing our imperfections, right? We all face challenging situations within ourselves and the world around us. However, here's the fascinating part of our existence—when we start making changes, doing that inner work, and embracing our own darkness, something magical happens. The situation starts to shift, and suddenly, we're radiating a whole new energy—one that's all about authenticity and autonomy. It's like finding your superhero power, but instead of saving the world, you're saving yourself.
This process of self realization usually begins in our darkest hour. It takes some serious guts to dive into that chaos and leave the familiar behind. But you know what? It’s worth it. Because in that process, we learn to recognize and love ourselves unconditionally. And let me tell you, it's a game-changer to how you experience life. Loving myself without judgment? How do I love myself so long as I am still a self-centered jerk? What does that even mean, love unconditionally? Good questions. That’s what the journey is all about.
I’ve often mistaken perfection for wholeness. Sadly, I know I’m not alone. We all get caught up in this idea of perfection, thinking we can't love ourselves until we tick all the boxes and meet external standards. But that's a trap. Depression, anxiety, and many other of our prevalent neuroses—they function like a defense mechanism, preventing us from experiencing true unconditional self-love.
And you know what else is fascinating? We sometimes shy away from facing the dark, ugly parts deep within us. It's like we're scared to dig into our own survival chakra, where those exquisite yet terrifying roots lie. But guess what? That's exactly where the Dark Goddess wants to be embraced. She's calling us to shed some light on those neglected parts of ourselves and let our whole being shine bright.
Here's a wild thought: our ego loves to play the God of our idealized self-image. But our true Spirit? It wants to be right here, in our humanity, growing and gaining wisdom through all our ups and downs.
Shadowboxing with the Dark Goddess
Doing shadow work transforms fate to destiny, and self-sabotage to faith. Stream of consciousness journaling, paying attention to your dreams, noticing what triggers you to disassociate, or become frustrated or irritable - all illuminates your shadow.

Bless the bounteousness nature of all that's dark... the fertile soil which gives birth to all we come to see. Oh the fine skillset of being able to see in the dark! <3 Timely teachings the Dark brings now...
I can feel the invitation from life to see the beauty and perfection and the humanness in the the mess, the chaos, the mistakes, the shadows, the failures... and to include, more and more, these experiences of being human in sweet, caring, honoring Love.
